The 1st of Shevat is the Shammuti New Year for Trees and the 8th day of Kalenda. The Hillelite Qehila avoids appearing to celebrate it in order to declare that they have nothing to do with the House of Shammai which sentenced Jesus to death.
The next day (Shevat 2nd) is Nitl Gadol. Nitl Gadol lasts a varying number of days depending upon which local calendar gentiles around you are using. The oldest convention taken from the Talmudic description of Tekufat Tevet is until the sun enters the house of capricorn which for most of the 21st century takes place after sunset on the 19th of January although many tens of thousands of years in the future that description will have become meaningless.
